Veterinary orthopaedics
Lameness of the right foreleg. Radioulnar mismatch at the elbow joint due to a short radius bone
Jacek Mederski VS – Verum Veterinary Clinic - Grudziadz
Species: Dog
Sex: Male
Name: —
Breed: Rottweiler
Age: 6 months
Health condition: very good, confirmed hip dysplasia
Diagnosis
Lameness of the right foreleg. Orthopaedics examination revealed soreness in the right elbow joint. In additional examinations (X-ray/CT), radioulnar mismatch at the elbow joint was diagnosed due to a short radius bone (premature closure of the distal growth cartilage of the radius bone after trauma).
1. Right elbow joint before surgery.
Treatment
Osteotomy with distraction of the radius bone together with osteotomy of the ulna. Sizing of distraction performed under arthroscopic guidance. Internal stabilisation was applied with a locking plate. The gap formed after bone distraction was filled with a FlexiOss®Vet preparation pre-soaked in saline and, after insertion into the defect site, additionally injected with a PRP solution.
2. Follow-up photo taken after surgery.
Treatment results
A control X-ray performed immediately after the surgery shows that a fissure created after distraction of the radius bone is filled with a FlexiOss®Vet preparation (August 1st, 2022). Follow-up examination performed on October 10th, 2022 – full bone integration, osteotomy and distraction gap completely filled with bone tissue. No osteolytic lesions or build-up at the implantation site.
3. Follow-up photo taken 2 months after surgery.
