Age: 1 year
Health condition: —
Diagnosis
A young Chihuahua, Gucio, was diagnosed with a complicated ectopic tooth, i.e. a tooth that has grown in the wrong place or direction. In the described case, the tooth led to the formation of an odontogenic cyst, i.e. a pathological space in the bone.
1. Pre-procedure X-ray.
Treatment
Due to the presence of an ectopic tooth and an odontogenic cyst, surgical treatment was implemented, which included tooth extraction, curettage of the odontogenic cyst and cleaning of its walls to prevent recurrence. FlexiOss®Vet bone substitute material was then implanted at the surgical extraction site for bone tissue augmentation. The material was used to fill the surgical wound following the extraction and curettage of the cyst.
2. Post-procedure X-ray.
Treatment results
The treatment results were very good. The bone tissue at the site of tooth extraction and cyst removal was rebuilt. The healing process was uncomplicated, and at the site of surgical intervention and implantation of the FlexiOss®Vet bone substitute, the mandibular bone was built up, which significantly strengthened the structure of the mandible, preventing it from future fractures in the post-extraction region.
